BRIDGES STATEMENT
Having always been drawn to bridges for both their physical structure and their metaphoric value, this group of work was made at a time of extreme transition. People, places and occupations were all about to change. Contemplation of imminent upheaval and sensing loss can cause one to hold on tight to the familiar while simultaneously living in a state of preoccupation of what is to come.
So while bridges do not literally appear in each piece, all of the work is about crossing over, holding on and letting go. Old themes are used while using new palettes, styles, materials, and iconography as a way of trying on new possibilities of the future.. Using odd, playful or angst-ridden imagery can help to process fears. All of the same strangeness of loss and the unknown appears in this work.
