MEDICAL MODEL STATEMENT

The medical model in partnership with the Western world has positioned well-ness and illness in opposition to each other like failure and success. The byproduct of distilling ideas of the body down into caricature is society's continued lack of understanding of the difference  between disability and impairment.

This work addresses both historical and contemporary notions of chronic illness, chronic pain, and disability as they exist on a continuum. Illness is everywhere. Our bodies, our minds and the planet are indivisible. Well-ness has become not only a state-of-mind but an endangered place as now more than ever, to be well, one must consider not only the health of our individual bodies, but our region, and our planet, as we are not divisible.
